Ruhanga Women's Empowerment Project
Ladies selling at their stall Ladies receiving gifts Peeling Matooke
Ruhanga Women's Empowerment Project is a small micro-finance initiative in South Western Uganda. It provides advice and support to women about how to increase their income and how to save for the future, to enable them to take control of their own lives and destinies.
A group of 9 women are trying to improve their lives through increasing their income and saving towards their future. They can be seen in the top photo to the left selling their produce and crafts on the stall they built themselves, by the side of the main road.
Also pictured to the left are the ladies receiving a gift from the UK. They were each given a Femme cup® for themselves and for their daughters. A valuable eco-friendly way of dealing with menstruation, which can be difficult and expensive in rural Africa.
The daughters of Loy, one of the women in the project, can be seen singing in the local church - after being taught some new songs by a volunteer visiting the community. The Ruhanga Women's Empowerment Project hopes to teach more girls in the community how to help bring control to their lives through sound investment and business ideas.
